Here's another great example of an embryo portrait I've made using a reference photo of not such great quality (photo 3). I am asked often if I can create these pieces using a blurry photo, or a grainy screen grab. The answer is YES!-- but I'll need to take some artistic liberty to fill in the details that aren't necessarily visible but that I imagine to be there. The good news is that I've literally made thousands (!!) of these paintings, so I like to think that I've gotten pretty good at imagining details that aren't present and knowing what the embryo may have actually looked like 😉

Here's a closer look at this moon embryo portrait I posted yesterday in my stories. For this custom piece, the buyer requested a design to hang in an outer space themed nursery, but she wanted to keep the design rather minimal. After tinkering with the colors to find the right balance of subtleness and pop, this is what we came up with. I like that the embryo almost looks like craters of the moon- it's not super obvious that it is a portrait of an embryo. What do you think? 🌝

I can finally share these finished commissions-- the largest watercolor embryo paintings I've done yet! Each painting measures 20x30 inches, and this pair took me over 1 month to finish. I used @archespapers and @danielsmithartistsmaterials, my absolute favorites.

A HUGE thank you to Dr Bloom at @mainlinefertility for giving me the opportunity to create these special paintings, which will hang in their office in Philadelphia.

✨SOLD✨ This one went fast! "Free Flow" is currently on the way to its new home in NC.

The painting is a huge 30x40 inch canvas made using fluid acrylics. I made this piece a few weeks ago when I had, for the first time in almost 7 years, a night all to myself at our home. My husband had taken our kiddos to visit family and I stayed behind with our pup. The day they left I felt such pressure, as I had big plans to deep clean and paint for the weekend. Of course I didn't create anything meaningful and felt like crap. The next morning I took things slow, meditated, read a book, and got to work in the late morning hours. I was able to create this piece as well as one more which still needs to be finished. It's amazing what we can create when we give ourselves the time, space, and permission to do so!

I'm ecstatic this painting sold so quickly- I absolutely love doing commissions, but it allows me to give myself permission to continue to create what I feel drawn to.
